Budding Indian Golfer – Arshia Mahant
Arshia Mahant is a 17 year old International Golf player from India. It all started 10 years ago for this promising young girl from New Delhi who started experimenting with varied kinds of sports like Taekwando, Skating, Swimming, Tennis and Golf.
A high achiever in all spheres, she has represented her home town in District and State level Skating, achieved 1st position in State level Swimming and even represented her school (Modern School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi) at National Chess tournaments while ensuring good grades academically.
Her journey with golf began when she went out to explore the green patches of a golf course with her friends when she was 7 years old. It was on the behest of her coaches that, within a span of two years, she started competing in zonal tournaments and won them all.
She was in Europe for a holiday, when she got to know of the US Kids World Championship that was being organized in Ambala, India. With the support of her family, a sleep deprived small girl of 8 years reached Amabala to participate in her 1st ever International Tournament.
Her determination to excel in the sport resulted her in winning the tournament, and thereby started her tryst with International Golf alongside the Indian circuit.
She has since participated in over 150 tournaments like Annika Invitational, True Vision, US Kids, Evian Junior World Championship, IMG world Junior, North – South Junior and the Hudson Junior Invitational amongst others.
Some of her achievements during this period include – winning the national qualifiers and securing a spot for the Asian tour of Champions, China in both the U-14 and U-18 category in 2015 . Finishing at 6th position at the Asian Tour of Champions, China; ranked as the #1 Junior in the country by the Indian Golf Union for 2014 in the 13-15 age category and selected to represent India at the Evian Golf Championship in France in 2014 where only top 4 juniors from the country was selected. Currently on the junior merit list , she is on the No 6 spot in the country .
Due to an extensive travel calendar participating in various golf tournaments, Arshia, would collectively average around 4 months of attendance in any academic session. Despite this, she has been performing consistently in her high school classes with a 10/10 CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average). Her school has been facilitating her with its high recognition – Founders’ Day Award for 5 consecutive years , for her achievements in Academics and Golf.
